ABS oder PP? – Welcher Kunststoff eignet sich besser für Trenntoiletten

ABS or PP? – Which plastic is better for composting toilets?

Anyone who deals with composting toilets quickly comes across different materials – usually PP (polypropylene) or ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) .
Both plastics have their advantages, but at ecoshit.de we deliberately use ABS – and for good reasons.

1. ABS is durable and dimensionally stable

ABS impresses with its high strength and dimensional stability.
This is especially important for products that are used every day.
While other plastics give way or become brittle when exposed to temperature fluctuations, ABS remains stable – durable and reliable.

2. Smooth surface for easy cleaning

The ecoshit ABS divider insert has a particularly smooth, slightly shiny surface.
This means that hardly any residue remains and cleaning is easy: a damp cloth is enough.
PP, on the other hand, usually has a rougher structure, which makes it easier for dirt to stick to.

3. Better bonding than PP

ABS has a clear advantage for DIY projects.
It can be easily bonded with common adhesives such as acrylic, silicone, body adhesive or PU glue.
PP, on the other hand, often requires special adhesives that are more difficult to handle and less available.

4. 100% recyclable

ABS also scores highly when it comes to sustainability:
The plastic is fully recyclable and can be recycled after use – in keeping with the spirit of a sustainable circular economy.

5. More design freedom

ABS offers a high degree of design freedom.
It can be colored, shaped, and processed precisely – ideal for developing products that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing.
Our dividers blend harmoniously into the overall design thanks to their subtle colors – without any garish plastic look.

Conclusion: ABS is the better choice

ABS combines stability, durability, good processability and sustainability.
For ecoshit, it's clear: anyone who develops a composting toilet that works reliably, is easy to clean, and lasts for many years should rely on ABS – because quality counts.
