Warum wir ABS-Kunststoff für unsere Trenneinsätze verwenden (und nicht PP)

Why we use ABS plastic for our dividers (and not PP)

If you've ever looked into composting toilets, you've probably come across a variety of materials – primarily PP (polypropylene) and ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene). But what's the difference? And why do we at ecoshit.de deliberately choose ABS for our composting insert?

1. ABS is durable and dimensionally stable

ABS plastic is known for its high strength and stability. Especially in everyday applications—such as using a composting toilet—it's important that the material doesn't become brittle or deform. ABS remains stable—even with temperature fluctuations.

2. Smooth surface = easy cleaning

Our divider insert has a particularly smooth, slightly glossy surface. This ensures that dirt hardly sticks, and everything can be cleaned quickly and easily with a damp cloth. PP often has a rougher surface, making cleaning more difficult.

3. Better bonding than PP

An important point for all DIY enthusiasts: ABS is much easier to process with conventional adhesives. Whether acrylic, silicone, body adhesive, PU glue, or assembly adhesive – ABS will hold. PP, on the other hand, is significantly more difficult to bond and usually requires special adhesives.

4. 100% recyclable

ABS also scores points in terms of sustainability: the plastic is fully recyclable and can be reused after use.

5. More design freedom

ABS is excellent for coloring and processing—this allowed us to design our divider insert in subtle colors that blend harmoniously with the overall look of your composting toilet. No garish plastic look—just a harmonious, well-thought-out design.

Conclusion: ABS is simply the better choice

For us, it's clear: If we're building something that's supposed to last, function well, and look good, we're going with ABS. Because we don't do things by halves. And because your ass deserves the best.
